American Legion, Post 208, Millis, Massachusetts Minutes of Regular Post Meeting, Thursday 17 April 2024

On 17 April 2024, at 10:00 AM, the Regular monthly meeting of the Membership of Post 208, American Legion in Millis,, MA was called to order by the Post Commander Robert Yeager. This was followed by the Pledge of Allegiance as led by Commander Yeager. A prayer was offered by the Legion Post 208 Chaplain Alan Burch. The preamble to the Constitution of the American was recited by all the present membership which was led by Commander Yeager who then led in a salute to the Missing and POWs

Commander Yeager checked with the assembled membership for information on any deceased or ill Members of Post 208. There were no additional passing of any post members although Legion Member Edward Shropshire, age 97, a WWII Veteran had been in the hospital but was now home.

Post Finance Officer Robert Yeager made the finance report to the Membership. A motion was made to accept the minutes of the Finance Report as read, subject to audit. The motion was passed by unanimous Vote of the Post 208 Membership present. There were no reports to be made from any of the Post 208 Committees.

There were two visitors at the Post 208 Meeting Thomas Long Vinnie Valastro who were both from American Legion Post 59, Milford, MA . A new member of Post 208 Susan Vanvaereney was also present and had transferred from the American Legion Post 59, Milford, MA. Legionaire Tom Long from Milford has also transfered into our post.

There was no old Business to discuss and Commander Yeager asked for any new business to be discussed. The Members of the Milford, Post 59 mentioned there is a Fishing Derby their post is holding for Youngsters which includes prizes of Fishing Poles, tackle and other fishing equipment. Post 208, Millis was invited. Coffee and donuts will be served there between 8:00AM to 9:00AM. This event currently is planned to be held the First Saturday in June from 9:00AM until 12 noon. If more information is needed Vinnie Valastro may be contacted at (508) 244-8789. The Knights of Columbus, VFW and Italian American Veterans are also involved. No fishing license is needed for children Who may participate.

The subject of Memorial Day, which will be 27 May 2024 was raised by the First Vice Commander of Post 208, Lawrence McCarter. Most of the program has been completed except filling in some of the participants. A grand Marshal needs to be added. Legion Member Mary Anne Sheridan a Retired US Army NCO was asked and accepted. Commander Yeager will arrange with Roche Brothers for a Free Breakfast for any Armed Forces veterans that will be free of charge. More information will be provided later as the planning progresses. Lawrence McCarter will get the listing of Veterans passed during the past year from the Millis Town Clerks office.

The First Vice Commander Lawrence McCarter also mentioned that American Legion Post 208 now has a brand new Facebook Page which started in February 2024 Membership on the page is open of course to ALL Legion Members, ALL Armed Forces Veterans and the families or friends of either. So far the Legion Facebook Page has 51 members.

There was a nomination of Officers for the upcoming annual election which will be held in June 2024. ALL the current office holders were nominated. An additional Post Member Who wish to be added to the election ballots can be added right up to and including the day of the actual election.

Commander Robert Yeager asked the Membership if there was any further business to be raised at the post meeting. There were no further issues to be raised . A closing prayer was done for the meeting by the Post 208 Chaplain Alan Burch. . The Post Commander Robert Yeager then declared the meeting of Post 208, American Legion to be adjourned at 10:45 AM .
